Summary

This class focuses on practical ways to approach the rewriting process for feature film screenplays. Through group workshops and assignments, students isolate issues with plot, character development, dialogue and pacing in their script and work on addressing them in a full draft rewrite. Students must possess a complete feature length script in order to enroll in the course.

Grading Scale Breakdown of FINAL REWRITTEN SCRIPT

90–100 = Excellent – Pages are strong, feedback is detailed and insightful.
80–89 = Good – Meets expectations, some room for depth in writing or notes.
70–79 = Adequate – Shows effort, but lacks polish or specificity.
60–69 = Needs Work – Major issues in clarity, format, or lack of useful feedback.
Below 60 = Incomplete – Pages missing or feedback not meaningful.

Prerequisites

PREREQUISITE: None



Lecture: Welcome to Rewriting the Feature Script class. Let’s talk about foundation and planning. We’ll discuss the rewriting process, how the class will go and giving notes to each other.

Classroom Activity:
Discuss student projects.
Separate class into four groups.
Scheduling one-on-one’s.

Assignment: Self Evaluation, read your script for Notes Overview. Upload to D2L due no later than Tuesday, September 16 at 5pm to everyone in class.

Online Course Evaluations

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation. Students complete the evaluation online in CampusConnect.
