CSEC 389: Cyber Defense Exercises and Attack Responses

This hands-on, lab-based course introduces students to applied cybersecurity. Working in teams, they will defend critical services against real-world cyber threats in a simulated hostile environment. Through practical exercises, students will develop purple team skills, gaining a deeper understanding of both attacks and the defenses needed to counter them. They will learn how to conduct threat modeling to identify key assets, configure essential business services, and implement defensive strategies to mitigate attacks. Students will also review logs, telemetry, and other digital artifacts for signs of compromise and practice techniques to contain and eliminate threats.
