Bio and Research Information

Dr. Shimpi has more than 15 years of experience in Biomedical and Healthcare Informatics, application of artificial intelligent tools at point-of-care and advancing interdisciplinary integration across healthcare systems. She has held leadership roles at the American Dental Association, including Senior Scientist for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Measurement, Director of the Clinical Data Registry (developed by ADA) and the Dental Quality Alliance and HIPAA Compliance Officer for the ADA's clinical data registry. Through these roles, she contributed to advancing data-driven initiatives, digital quality measurement, ensuring regulatory integrity and guiding informatics research activities among students at universities. As the Biomedical Informatics Scientist (tenure-track) at Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, WI, USA, she conducted clinical and translational research defining inter-relationship between oral and systemic health. She contributed to initiatives including integration of medical and dental data and exchange, developed and evaluated interface terminologies for integrated Electronic Health Records (iEHR), and led the dental quality improvement initiatives. Dr. Shimpi received her Doctoral degree (PhD) in Biomedical and Health Informatics from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Master’s degree in Healthcare Management with majors in Informatics from Cambridge College of Management, MA, USA and Bachelor of Dental Surgery from India. She has conducted several research studies and has been consistently acknowledged in academic papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters (authored 60+ publications).
